Elena Kent ~ Artist

I am happy doing anything that involves creativity. All kinds of art; music, theatre, visual, performing and everything in between.  The greatest expression of a creative soul is truth through art.   A LITTLE BACKGROUND I grew up on the stage, not only acting, but often with a paintbrush in hand working on backdrops, murals and scenic design.  It all started when I was 11 years old and met Penny, my best friend's mom. She put a paintbrush in my hand, oil pastels within reach and gave me just the right amount of instruction needed to create a confident artist. She never erased or took my pencil, instead she taught me that mistakes are part of learning, and most of the time, they can be transformed into something better than the original idea!  One first place blue ribbon later (for my first attempt at an oil pastel floral) and I never looked back. I've been doodling, painting and creating ever since.     INFLUENCES The tragic and emotional story of Van Gogh paired with his intense use of color and texture make him one of my favorite artists and biggest influences. I also adore Monet and Cassatt, as well as Renoir, Picasso, Degas, Whistler and Cezanne. Expressive color, movement and texture are the perfect way to spend an afternoon at the easel.

  3 FUN ART FACTS

Everyone is an artist. Yes YOU.

Everyone can be creative, whether they realize it or not. A lot of people tend to think creativity is part of your DNA: Either you have it, or you don't. But in reality, we actually do all have creativity!

"The more you use, the more you have." Maya Angelou said it, and she's right. You can learn to create art.  It can be honed and mastered just as any other skill. So get that canvas (or shirt) a paint set, and start practicing!

“Every child is an artist; the problem is staying an artist when you grow up”
